Welcome to Campa Chormaic

Tyrone

Campa Chormaic began life in the Brantry outside Eglish, in Cormac's native home. Cormac always loved the Brantry Bard and it is here that we come together first thing in the morning to start the Campa for the day. In the Brantry Bard there is a Gaelic atmosphere to be felt in the air and everyone feels at home here while taking part in the morning classes.

When Campa Chormaic began it consisted of one week and we were expecting that around thrity would attend in that first year, however the Camp proved to be very successful in that first year with more than seventy pupils' attending the Camp. A week was added to the Camp the following year and again the Brantry Bard was packed with children eager to learn their native language. Now, Campa Chormaic is an important part of the summer for children in east Tyrone.

In Tyrone children attending the camp have the opportunity to learn Irish and to practise their football, hurling, camogie and handball skills on Father Connolly Park and hopefully this year the children at the camp will have the chance to play Gaelic Games on the field that is being named after Cormac himself.

We, in Tyrone, are greatly indebted to the local community of the Brantry and Eglish, to the companies and families who support Campa Chormaic especially the Brantry Bard, Eglish GFC and JB Barretts Concrete.
