Campa Chormaic was established in 2005 to develop
and promote the ideals of Cormac McAnallen, the captain of the Tyrone
Gaelic Athletic Association football team (2004). Cormac died on March
2nd 2004 – Go ndeána Dia trócaire ar a anam uasal.
Campa Chormaic is funded primarily by the cross-border
language implementation body Foras na Gaeilge
and by the board of the Tyrone Gaelic Athletic Association.
Sponsorship is also received from companies and
individuals based locally in Co. Tyrone and Co. Armagh.
Campa Chormaic which is located at the Bard (Branty
Area Rural Development Association) centre and Eglish Gaelic Athletic
Association’s grounds in Co. Tyrone, is organised by a committee
which is representative of the local historical, cultural and sporting
interests.
The aims of Campa Chormaic are:
- To promote an interest in the use of the Irish language
and its attendant cultural heritage
- To promote and develop Gaelic
games
- To promote an interest in local history
- To organise an annual summer camp for young people
between the ages of 10-15 and occasional events for adults in pursuance
of these objectives.
